Due to the existence of toxic and hazardous gases in tunnels has always been the main source of danger in construction, it is a major hidden danger that is very likely to cause major safety accidents. Toxic and hazardous gases in tunnels mainly include Methane, Carbon Monoxide, Carbon Dioxide, Hydrogen Sulfide, Ammonia, Nitrogen and varying amounts of heavy hydrocarbons as well as trace amounts of rare gases. In order to safely construct tunnels, it is necessary to monitor the concentration of toxic gases in tunnels in real time.

According to chemical properties, these toxic and hazardous gases in tunnels can be categorized into two main groups: flammable gases and hazardous gases.

The main components of flammable gases are Methane (gas) and some volatile organic compounds (VOCS), and the main hazard is the explosion caused by gas combustion, which jeopardizes the safety of property and life.

According to their different mechanisms of action on human body, the toxic gases in tunnels are categorized into irritating gases, asphyxiating gases and organic gases (VOCs) for acute poisoning.

According to the actual situation of harmful gases in tunnels, the toxic and harmful gas monitoring field takes methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S) as the main monitoring objects, while some harmful gases with low content and small concentration are taken as auxiliary monitoring objects.

In modern technology, sensor arrays are combined with intelligent algorithms to form an intelligent gas monitoring system, which identifies and monitors the concentration of gases in the environment so as to detect toxic and hazardous gases, monitor the gas environment in tunnels timely and warn the tunnel in advance, and eliminate the hidden dangers of tunnel construction safety, so as to provide protection for tunnel construction safety.
